Babbage: This Project Makes You See The World Through the Robot’s Eyes – Into Robotics

Oculus Rift, Leap Motion, BeagleBone Black, Arduino, Nokia and a cheap 4WD robot kit – combining these components is the recipe for an ultimate telepresence rover. Over on YouTube, Alex shows you how to build this wheeled telepresence mobile robot using two BeagleBone Black boards, a head-mounted display, motion detector, a smartphone and a wheeled platform.

You can hear what the robot hears. You can see what the robot sees. All the data from the sensors is displayed on a head-mounted display Oculus Rift. More than that, the designer connects a Leap Motion detector onto the Rift, so you can control the robot using your hands. You can start, stop and reverse the rotation of the wheels.

The head of the robot is not one, two BeagleBone Black prototyping boards. A Nokia smartphone is attached to the back of the robot to provide GPS data, speech recognition, and text-to-speech data.

You can check the components list, how doing it, and more information on this video.
