Do you know which development platforms to focus on when creating an application connected to Internet for yourself? More and more devices are running much more applications designed to speak a common language: the Internet of Things.
The WRTnode is, as its name said, a node between automation things and Internet. The single board computer could be connected to the Internet without any problem and do something complicated. A robot able to detect and track objects while streaming camera video to you over the Internet, tweet the status and check the email, check your house while you’re on vacation are just small and simple things that can be done with WRTnode.
The WRTnode is small enough to fit into your hand, cheap enough for a single board computer, and low power computer to run on batteries. Besides of all, the development board is engineered for Wi-Fi high speed connections. The board comes equipped with a 600MHz Mediatek MT7620N processor, which is fast enough to run the OpenWrt operating system and several other libraries such as OpenCV.

The WRTnode is engineered for high performances in the physical world of motors and sensor, it’s like a digital version of the Arduino. Equipped with USB ports, the board can run applications able to collect images and voices from camera and sound card, and stream out multimedia stream over the Internet in real time.
Its capabilities of fast communication over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi together with a good processing power and sufficient memory space for several applications, lead the single board computer to fulfill its duties in automation and robotics applications such as home automation, drones, robots, or control gadgets.
We cannot ignore the OpenWrt operating system based on Linux kernel and primarily used for embedded applications. The WRTnode run OpenWrt BARRIER BREAKER version. For this version is available a series of patches for vision libraries such as OpenCV, demos for OpenCV, mechanical control, or RESTful, and a library with source code for inspiration and fast development.
And … more plans
In the coming soon area of wrtnode.com can be found a list of next kits and development boards planned for market release. From this list you have to choose between a balanced car and quadcopter kit based on the WRTnode, while in the accessories area will be released several UIXO standard hardware modules and standard shields.
