The Snake Monster is a hexapod robot designed inside at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. It looks like a spider and it’s one of these, but the name of the robot is misleading. Nothing is random, and the name reveals the innovative actuators that make each leg to act like a snake. The result is a probably one of the best all-terrain robot with six legs.
Now, back to the technology, the autonomous robot relies on six legs. A series-elastic actuator designed to provide simultaneously the control over the position, velocity, and torque powers each join of the leg.
Once DARPA supports the research, the robot is designed for military applications and less as a social robot.
